Bezos is making a documentary about Melania Trump, and Zuck is ending this “fact-checker” bullshit.
All the tech people are being very nice to Trump this time around, and the only price is infinity Indians forever.
Social media giant Meta on Tuesday announced a series of changes to its content moderation policies, including the elimination of its fact-checking program, in what CEO Mark Zuckerberg said was an effort to embrace free speech.“We’re going to get back to our roots and focus on reducing mistakes, simplifying our policies and restoring free expression on our platforms,” Zuckerberg said in a video posted Tuesday morning.
“More specifically, here’s what we’re going to do. First, we’re going to get rid of fact checkers and replace them with community notes similar to X, starting in the U.S.”
The changes mark a major move for the parent company of Instagram and Facebook and follows a series of other changes the company has made in recent weeks as President-elect Trump heads into his second term later this month.
Meta’s yearslong fact-checking program enlisted the help of third-party fact-checkers that moderated posts in more than 60 languages. The company stated the practice eventually became too restrictive of posts over the years.
Yeah, I think it became effectively impossible to have any kind of free discussion at all. You were pretty much just allowed to agree with the government, and say nothing else.
Unless you were Ben Shapiro. Then you were allowed to complain about men in women’s sports for ten minutes before doing 50 minutes on how “Israel is our values.”
What we are seeing is the establishing of a new status quo, and I don’t think it’s going to be much better. The establishment is just dropping some of the extreme “woke” stuff. I’m still banned from everything, and Elon Musk recently did censorship against Laura Loomer and others, so we’re not going to see any real change emerging. Everything is going to relate to dumb culture war issues, which literally do not matter at all.
I’m sure this will feel like a big victory to Charlie Kirk and Matt Walsh, who have made huge careers talking about trannies in sports and how DEI is racist. But no one who cares about anything that actually matters is going to be given anything to get excited about.
What’s more, the Trump Administration has indicated it wants many more immigrants as well as further censorship of people who talk about the Jews. So while the new status quo might include some things that seem good, we’ve been promised that other things are going to get worse, potentially significantly worse.
Before Christmas, people were accusing me of being negative. However, I think after the Elon Musk “I’ll fuck your face because they’re culturally superior to you” fiasco, no one is accusing me of that anymore.
I will note that I don’t think Zuckerberg ever wanted to censor anyone and was actually mad about the Biden Administration forcing him to do so. I don’t think he actually cares about “freedom of speech” as an abstract value, but this censorship program was bad for business. He might even be willing to go along with a commission to imprison the people in the Biden Administration, including Anthony Fauci, who conspired to censor the American people. Of course, there is zero chance Trump would ever put together any such commission.
