Going through stress to get extra support into the Gaza Strip, Israel stated this week it’s working towards opening the Erez crossing, a significant checkpoint between Israel and northern Gaza.
Jamie McGoldrick, U.N. humanitarian coordinator for the occupied Palestinian territory, stated in an announcement Saturday that Israel “plans to open Erez Crossing briefly to maneuver a lot wanted meals, water and sanitation gadgets, shelter and well being supplies from Ashdod port” in southern Israel, north of the Erez crossing. However the timing of the reopening stays unclear. McGoldrick stated on Friday that Israel had not but ratified the choice to open the crossing, and that when authorized, the checkpoint wouldn’t be operational for a couple of weeks.
