Manchester United are targeting six players to fill the left back void in their squad this January.
It was initially thought that the Red Devils would leave significant strengthening of this area to the summer but Ruben Amorim’s appointment has resulted in the club playing a 3-4-3 formation which is heavily dependent on attacking full back play.
It was hoped the eagerly anticipated return of Luke Shaw would aid the team but he only managed two substitute appearances in the Premier League before picking up yet another injury setback, that could take weeks to recover from.
For that reason, GIVEMESPORT report that the club “will now green-light plans to buy a replacement.”
“The decision to go into the market for a new left-back marks a slight tweak in strategy under Amorim” and they must now decide whether to pursue “a substantial investment in a long-term solution or opt for a more pragmatic, short-term signing”.
Milos Kerkez is one of the names at the top of the list as the AFC Bournemouth man continues to impress in the Premier League with his “dynamic” performances.
“Another player from the Premier League that has been regularly linked is Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Rayan Ait-Nouri. The Algeria international is under consideration, with the player renowned for his attacking contributions down the left flank.”
His dribbling skills and composure in advanced positions could add another dimension to United’s wing play.
Alphonso Davies is also a big name target from Bayern Munich but there has been confusion recently as to how available he might be. It has been reported that he is closer to agreeing a new contract with Bayern Munich.
However, reports emerged late last night that United have organised a meeting next month with the player and his representatives to convince him to move to Old Trafford.
United have also been linked to their former fullback Alvaro Fernandez and do retain a buy back clause for the player should they decide to make a move for the Spaniard after he has mightily impressed in Portugal for SL Benfica.
Another potential option is Girona’s Miguel Gutierrez, who United have been tracking for some time due to his sensational performances in Catalonia.
The final name on GIVEMESPORT’s list is that of Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu, as sources have confirmed that the Red Devils are watching his progress closely and are ready to lodge a €35 million bid in January.
The winter transfer market opens on the 1st of January and fans will have their eyes peeled for what United decide to do to fix this problematic position ahead of the final five months of the season.
