Sir Dave Brailsford have already held discussions with Manchester United managerial target Ruben Amorim, as per reports.
INEOS came under the spotlight over the summer for taking plenty of time to make their decision on Erik ten Hag’s future at United. That decision, eventually, backfired as the Red Devils have endured a terrible start to the new campaign.
However, the senior figures at United have shown admirable decisiveness and swiftness lately.
Not only have United pulled the trigger on Erik ten Hag, but they have also seemingly made a lot of progress in their pursuit to find a new permanent manager.
According to talkSPORT, United have convinced Amorim to take the reins at Old Trafford.
The Sporting Lisbon boss has already “verbally agreed” to join the Red Devils.
United supposedly consider the sought-after Portuguese tactician as their top target and are accordingly willing to pay compensation for his services. It is believed he has a release clause worth at least £8.3m in his Sporting contract.
talkSPORT reveals that “members of the United hierarchy sounded out Amorim last week.”
The 39-year-old met with Sir Dave Brailsford, deputy head of sport at INEOS, last week and gave his green light to the move to the Theatre of Dreams.
Considering how reluctant top managers are to jump ship mid-season, the appointment of Amorim would be seen as a real coup from the club’s hierarchy. Especially since Sporting are absolutely flying under his tutelage.
The Lisbon-based outfit have won all of their opening nine games in the Primeira Liga this term, scoring 30 and conceding just twice in the process.
Amorim, who has led Sporting to two league titles, has also attracted Manchester City’s interest. However, it has been reported that he is not willing to wait to replace Pep Guardiola at a later date.
