Ruben Amorim says he does not want to lose Marcus Rashford ahead of Manchester United’s League Cup clash with Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of the game, the United head coach was asked about Marcus Rashford’s comment that he needs “a new challenge” and replied:
“I think he’s right. We have a new challenge here, the biggest in football, we are in a difficult situation. I hope all my players are ready.” he said.
Asked if he had spoken to Rashford about the interview he gave with Henry Winter suggesting he wants to leave, Amorim said he had not.
“No [I’ve not spoken to Rashford yet]. It [the interview] was yesterday. We gave a day off to the lads. He’s our player and he’s ready for the next game.”
“I spoke with a lot of players individually and during training, what I want is to take the best stuff of Marcus Rashford as the player. So I don’t talk about the future, I just talk about the present. I want the best of each one of them and that is the key point for me.
“I just want to win and help the team to be better. We are better with Rashford, that’s simple and we try our best to push Marcus Rashford to the level he is at before.”
Responding to whether he wants to keep Rashford at the club, Amorim replied:
“Of course, because this kind of club needs big talents and he’s a big talent. So, he just needs to perform at the highest level and that is my focus. I just want to help Marcus”.
Asked if Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho will be involved in tomorrow’s game, he said:
“We have one more training but it’s the same as the other players. If they train well, then I have to make a choice.
“We’ll see at the end of training – I expect the best of each player every day so we will see after training.”
“This is in the future, my focus is to have all the players in the best that they can be to prepare for each game. There is no if at this kind of club, it is just Tottenham and let’s focus on this game.”
