Putin fired a new missile and then gave a speech about how he’s going to start attacking European countries.
The missle was a demonstration of what he can do to European sites that are involved in the war in the Ukraine.
This whole thing Biden is doing on the way out (which is illegal, but whatever, most of what the government does is illegal) is designed to force Putin to escalate before Trump takes over.

The Russian military has launched a state-of-the-art intermediate-range ballistic missile against a Ukrainian target, President Vladimir Putin said in a public address on Thursday.As part of what the president called a “combat test,” the hypersonic missile, dubbed ‘Oreshnik’ (‘Hazel’), successfully struck a military industrial facility in the Ukrainian city of Dnepropetrovsk (known as Dnipro in Ukraine), Putin added.
The strike was a response to Ukrainian attacks on military facilities located on internationally recognized Russian territory, the president stated. Kiev’s forces launched the strikes on Tuesday and Thursday, using US-made ATACMS and HIMARS systems as well as British-made Storm Shadow missiles, he said.
The president also vowed to publicly announce any future strikes against the Ukrainian targets involving the ‘Oreshnik’ system “for humanitarian reasons” to let civilians leave a potentially dangerous zone. The announcements would not affect the effectiveness of the strikes, he added. A ballistic missile travelling at between 2.5 and 3 kilometers per second, or 10 times faster than the speed of sound, cannot be countered with any existing air defense systems, Putin said.
Russia is still ready to “resolve all the differences in a peaceful way,” the president said, adding that Moscow is still “also ready for any developments” and one should not doubt that “there will always be a response.”
The missile is way overpowered for a Ukraine strike.
The speed of the Oreshnik missile warhead is such that the air defense systems that the West relies on will not be able to repel the attack, former CIA analyst Larry Johnson said on REN TV.

The entire point, as Putin said in his address, is to show NATO countries that he has the ability to fire missiles at them that they have no ability to counter.
This is such a mess. Although it is sort of hilarious.
Putin has to respond, because there are people in Moscow going nuts demanding he do more in this war. The goal of the Biden people was to force his hand, to force him to attack some NATO base outside of the Ukraine. It’s possible he can do this demonstration and then do a massive strike on the Ukraine, taking out bridges and power supplies, maybe doing strikes on Kiev to wipe out top government officials.
But it’s a long way to January 20th. A lot can happen.
The Biden people are determined to get Russia to attack a NATO base, and there is a lot more they can do to provoke that.
