Manchester United Women boss Marc Skinner was full of praise for Dominique Janssen following her brilliant display during Sunday’s 4-0 victory over Liverpool.
She scored a goal and provided two assists from her defensive midfield position as United ran riot at Leigh Sports Village.
Elisabeth Terland and Leah Galton were the other goalscorers for United, who have now moved into the European places in the Women’s Super League.
The result marked a much-welcome return to winning ways for the Reds following the defeat at the hands of Chelsea just before the international break.
Reacting to his side’s performance, Skinner said, “I thought the players were excellent, their attitude was excellent.”
“We’ve tasked ourselves in these three games [before the winter break against Liverpool, Newcastle and Crystal Palace], to get after teams and get back to where we want to be, which is attacking and being aggressive.”
“That’s part of what we’ve been doing [in training] and we’ve started it well in this game.”
After Terland scored the opener, United followed that up with a second Galton goal less than two minutes later.
Skinner added in his post-match remarks, “It’s always good to get a back-to-back goal. It was a pretty even game up until that point, I think the second half was much more comfortable.”
On Janssen, Skinner pointed out, “Dom was excellent today. But if you take away on the ball stuff, she offers a lot of [defensive] coverage.”
“She covers gaps that we couldn’t cover last year. There’s a lot of space covering that wouldn’t necessarily lead to chances, but it puts [the opponent] off playing that [pass].”
“We’re covering spaces really well in midfield and it gives protection to the backline.”
United’s attention now turns to the Women’s League Cup on Wednesday night when Newcastle make their way to Leigh Sports Village.
