Manchester United’s poor start to the new campaign has highlighted the deficiencies in Erik ten Hag’s first team squad.
Having mustered a paltry five goals from their first seven games, United’s front line have disappointed so far this season, so much so that INEOS are ready to add more firepower in attacking areas in a bid to improve the fortunes at Old Trafford.
As reported by The Express, Crystal Palace winger Eberechi Eze is high on the list of targets for the new owners, who are ready to make a move in the next window.
Eze has burst onto the Premier League scene in recent times and ended last year in fine form that earned him a call up to England’s Euro 2024 squad.
The attacker didn’t feature as much as he would have liked for the Three Lions in the summer but has impressed at the start of the new campaign for Palace.
The 26-year-old has scored three times in his nine outings this season and is approaching his peak years at the top level.
The Londoners value Eze at around £60 million and United will need to offload before they can fund the deal.
It’s reported United have offered Brazilian wide man Antony to Oliver Glasner’s side but the hierarchy at Palace who could be open to offering the winger a way out of Old Trafford.
Antony’s value has plummeted since his mega money move from Ajax in the summer of 2022 and United are now happy to cut their losses on the player.
The 24-year-old’s reputation is in tatters after a disastrous couple of seasons at the Theatre of Dreams and United will do well to recoup any of the incredible £80 million shelled out to the Dutch giants.
It’s believed Eze will challenge the position of United captain Bruno Fernandes, with the Portuguese star out-of-form at the start of the new season.
The Peoples Person previously relayed that INEOS were looking to move either Fernandes or Marcus Rashford on in order to fund the Eze deal but it now seems he will be working in rotation with the 30-year-old.
Should INEOS pull off the signing, Eze would certainly provide Ten Hag with another very handy string to his attacking bow and United fans would no doubt welcome the exciting Englishman with open arms.
Ten Hag’s struggling troops are back in action this coming Saturday as they look to kick start their season by beating Brentford at Old Trafford.
