After conceding a record 85 goals in all competitions in the previous campaign, it was clear that Manchester United needed to improve their backline in the summer.
Raphael Varane departed at the end of his contract while academy graduate Willy Kambwala was also moved on, which meant the club needed to reinforce the right centre-back position.
After two failed bids for Jarrad Branthwaite, INEOS shifted their focus to Leny Yoro and despite Real Madrid being ahead in the race, it was United who ultimately secured the Frenchman’s signature.
That was not all as after a lengthy delay, in came Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich with INEOS fully focussed on signing young players instead of big-name superstars hoping to earn one last paycheck.
CB revamp on the cards
The club failed to move on Victor Lindelof while Harry Maguire’s future is far from certain, which means INEOS are keeping tabs on upcoming defenders with a view to signing them ahead of the next season.
The latest name comes courtesy Fussball News, who claimed that the 20-time English league champions undertook a scouting trip to watch RB Salzburg defender Samson Baidoo in action.
He is only 20, which makes him an ideal recruit for INEOS, and has already established himself as a first-team regular at Salzburg.
The Red Devils are not the only English sides looking at the Austrian, with rivals Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle all looking at the FC Liefering star.
He is already a league winner at the Austrian giants and exposure in the Champions League has only helped to enhance his level even further.
Baidoo being monitored
“Manchester United are one of the teams taking a closer look at RB’s talent pool. Samson Baidoo is on the list of Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Manchester City.
“The Red Devils also have the 20-year-old on their radar. Baidoo moved to Salzburg at the age of 14 and has already played 37 competitive games for RB. A strong season could quickly spark interest from England.”
Baidoo has a current market value of €8 million according to Transfermarkt and a strong domestic season could spark a transfer race next summer.
Christopher Vivell’s presence as United’s head of scouting makes this piece of news even more believable as he was previously part of the Red Bull group and knows a thing or two about the talents coming up through the pipeline.
