Manchester United seem set to enter into a fiery race to sign in-demand Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Martin Baturina.
Earlier this year, The Peoples Person discussed the possibility that Man United would plot a move for the youngster.
According to the same report, Real Madrid also signalled their interest in the youngster, recognising his impressive performances this season.
While a later report claimed that Baturina rejected a contract offer from the Spanish giants, it appears as if United are not yet in the clear when it comes to securing an easy transfer.
This morning, Caughtoffside reported that Paris Saint-Germain are taking active steps to sign the Croatian rising star.
“Manchester United are among the Premier League clubs showing an interest in the potential transfer of Dinamo Zagreb youngster Martin Baturina, though Paris Saint-Germain have already held talks over a deal,” the report read.
“CaughtOffside understands that PSG have been working on signing Baturina for around €25 million and want to get the move done as quickly as possible, though Zagreb are adamant that their star player is not for sale,” the report continued.
Baturina has been a revelation for Zagreb this season, bagging five assists and a goal in 14 SuperSport HNL matches. He also scored once and bagged an assist in five UEFA Champions League appearances. (Transfermarkt)
In this season’s Champions League, Baturina has completed an impressive 89% of his passes, including a jaw-dropping 98% passing from within his own half. Even more impressive is that he has completed 100% of his long balls.
The 21 year old has also proven his quality with the ball at his feet, with 63% dribbling while winning 53% of his ground duels. (Sofascore)
Given Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation, an attacking midfielder such as Baturina will surely come in handy. A classic number 10, Baturina could potentially fill any of the front three slots in the team while perhaps dropping back into the central midfield.
Still, there is the possibility that a player like Baturina is not suited to Amorim’s United, with the likes of Mason Mount struggling to find their place in the team.
Ultimately, Baturina’s versatility will be key in determining if he is the right player for United. With his price tag potentially hovering around just €25 million, he may just be well worth the risk.
