Manchester United’s struggles in front of goal have not abated even in the new season with Erik ten Hag’s team managing only two goals in three games, with the team losing their last two.
Last season, the Red Devils scored the lowest number of goals among the top-10 teams in the Premier League with the manager forced to rely heavily on Rasmus Hojlund amid Marcus Rashford’s poor run of form.
This season, the Dane remains injured with new signing Joshua Zirkzee still to adapt to his new surroundings while the Mancunian still looks like a shadow of his former self.
With Jadon Sancho no longer at the club and INEOS looking to move on Antony, another wide forward could be targeted in January if CaughtOffside are to be believed.
Coman could be on the move
Kingsley Coman of Bayern Munich is available for transfer and if he can prove his fitness in the first half of the season and score consistently, there is no reason why Premier League bigwigs will not enter negotiations.
Last season, the Frenchman netted five times while in the previous campaign, he got nine. He can play on both flanks and while his quality has never been in doubt, his injury record is a real concern.
In the last three seasons, he has suffered from 15 separate issues and last term, the 28-year-old missed over 20 games. His age also makes him unsuitable for the project that INEOS are trying to build.
But if a low-cost deal materialises, the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and United will be in reckoning as per Bundesliga transfer expert Christian Falk.
United are long-term admirers
“If there will be a club willing to pay for him, and if it comes from the Premier League, I think both sides (Bayern and Coman) would be prepared to talk.
“There will always be rumours about Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United, so there are clubs interested in Coman if he’s not injured. If he’s playing very well in the lead-up to winter, I think a move could happen, as Bayern wants to sell him.”
Coman failed to agree an exit to Saudi Arabia in the summer but if he can stay fit and rekindle the form he showed a few years ago, there is no reason why a big-money move cannot happen.
He was a legitimate target earlier but United are unlikely to bite given their wide options at the present. His current contract ends in 2027 and his stay in Munich is likely to end soon.
