Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was under enormous pressure before the Premier League game against Brentford at Old Trafford on Saturday.
After a disastrous last league season, the team’s fortunes in the top flight have continued to waver with the club’s start to the current campaign representing their worst in the competition in 35 years.
And with Thomas Frank, one of the candidates to replace him, coming to the Theatre of Dreams, it was imperative that the former Ajax coach silenced his critics and vindicated INEOS’ stance of standing by him.
The Red Devils trailed at the back, and a fiery half-time pep talk later, his forwards got in on the action as the team rallied back to win 2-1.
INEOS happy with Brentford win
And according to Givemesport, the new co-owners were mightily impressed with the resilience the side showed and the way the manager is fighting against his current circumstances.
The report further added that INEOS are open to keeping him at the helm for the whole of the season should the 20-time English league champions build on their impressive display in the games to come.
With Fenerbahce and West Ham coming up next, United have the chance to prove their mettle with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team stopping short of considering replacements for now.
“Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is on course to remain at the Old Trafford helm for the remainder of the season if he succeeds in building on last weekend’s win over Brentford as co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has opted against putting together a shortlist of potential successors, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.
CL football key for INEOS
“GMS sources have been informed that Manchester United’s victory over Brentford has the potential to completely change his future prospects, particularly as he secured three points against a side managed by Thomas Frank, who is highly-regarded by some members of the hierarchy.
“Ratcliffe is still judging the boss based on the Red Devils’ output on the pitch, having given him his support at this stage, while he must ensure that his side are competitive in cup competitions and stay in touch with the Champions League places as he looks to prove he is the right man for the job.”
Champions League football is key for INEOS and United are currently six points off the top four and for now, there is hope he can turn things around.
Not too many elite replacements are in the market and if the team continues to get results, the chances of seeing Ten Hag in the dugout till the end of the season is quite high.
