Go Ahead Eagles technical director Paul Bosvelt has revealed his displeasure with how Manchester United went about luring Rene Hake from the Netherlands during the summer.
Hake left his role as Go Ahead Eagles boss to become an assistant coach under Erik ten Hag at United.
He arrived at the same time as Ruud van Nistelrooy, who is believed to have turned down managerial opportunities in favour of a sensational return to Old Trafford.
Hake and Van Nistelrooy effectively replaced Mitchell van der Gaag and Benni McCarthy, who both left United in search of pastures anew.
Paul Bosvelt spoke to Voetbal International and indicated that he was not happy with how United approached their manager.
He said, “I thought it was very strange it took so long for Manchester United to come forward.”
“A bit of misplaced arrogance.”
Hake’s appointment has so far failed to turn things around at United, amidst the club’s extremely poor start to the season.
The Red Devils currently sit in 14th place in the Premier League having won just two of their opening seven Premier League fixtures.
United only have eight points to their name, representing their worst-ever start to a campaign.
The team’s dire form has led to renewed speculation over Ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford and it has been suggested a change in the dugout could be made very soon.
If Ten Hag is sacked, it remains to be seen what happens to Hake. Van Nistelrooy has been tipped to become interim United manager while INEOS go about the business of searching for a permanent replacement.
