Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Vincent Jackson was found dead late Monday morning in a hotel where he’d been staying since Jan. 11. His body was reportedly discovered by a housekeeper at 11:30 a.m.
The three-time Pro Bowl pass-catcher was reported missing by his family on Feb. 10, according to news station WFLA, which says police located him in a Tampa-area hotel a couple days later and called off the search.Advertisement
His former team won its second Super Bowl Feb. 8. Jackson began his career in San Diego with the Chargers.
Jackson’s cause of death has not been determined, but there were no reported signs of blunt trauma. Sheriff Chad Chronister mourned the loss of a family man, a Tampa football star and a community leader.
“He will be sorely missed by not only football fans across the country, but also the people here in Hillsborough County who reaped the benefits of his generous contributions,” Chronister said.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office made Jackson an honorary deputy in 2018.
