Manchester United are preparing to advance negotiations over Kobbie Mainoo’s new contract at the club.
The 19 year old was the breakout star of last season and impressed a plethora of fans and pundits with his calm and controlled performances in the midfield.
From his fine full Premier League debut away to Everton to a goal in the FA Cup final victory, he quickly became one of the first names on the team sheet.
As a result of his new found importance in the team, United have been keen to boost his salary which sees him earn £20,000 a week at the moment.
Mainoo has continued to feature regularly this season, playing five times but was rested in the 7-0 thrashing of Barnsley in the Carabao Cup after the club made a decision to try to reduce the risk of burnout.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has given some very encouraging news for United supporters as he has claimed that there has been some progress in a deal to tie down Mainoo’s future at the club.
Commenting in his Daily Briefing he claimed, “we can say that Man United are now preparing to advance in talks with Mainoo.”
“At the moment, it’s still an internal process for United – they are preparing the proposal, meaning the salary, the bonuses, and, although it’s nothing urgent, they want to offer this fantastic talent an important contract to make him feel in the best condition possible at Man United.”
The process seems somewhat of a formality as both United and Mainoo are very happy with one another and the midfielder is extremely content with manager Erik ten Hag, who has been critical in every step of his development in the first team.
“Everyone at the club is together on this – the new owners, the directors – they all want Mainoo to be the face of the club and the face of this interesting new project.”
Interestingly, Romano also states that United are keen to negotiate a new deal with Amad Diallo as was relayed here yesterday.
Mainoo and Amad represent two of the club’s most exciting players moving forward and fans of the club will hope to see how they grow and progress with other young talents such as Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund and Leny Yoro over the coming years.
