A lot was expected from Jadon Sancho when he first joined Manchester United after a protracted transfer chase which saw the Red Devils pursue him for over a season.
It took time for him to get going with the managerial uncertainty not helping but it was felt that Erik ten Hag’s arrival would help take his game to the next level.
After a brilliant start to the 22/23 season, his form fizzled out but his manager kept supporting him despite the downs and it was quite the shock to see the pair fall out in spectacular fashion last season.
The Dutchman criticised his training displays and his lack of discipline while the player countered with a social media statement against the boss.
Sancho’s horror United spell
Things got so bad that the player was exiled from the first team before eventually getting shipped off to Borussia Dortmund in January.
A successful loan spell later, the England international arrived back at Carrington after positive talks with Ten Hag but his stay did not last long and eventually, INEOS moved him on while all set to incur a huge loss on the initial investment.
Two assists in two games later, United are facing questions regarding their transfer decision but as per Givemesport, Ten Hag felt Amad Diallo, who has been a regular starter in the league, offers long-term security as opposed to Sancho.
The Ivorian has been at his creative best this term, notching a goal and an assist while also creating numerous chances for his teammates. His application in training has also impressed the former Ajax coach.
So impressed have the new hierarchy been with the former Atalanta starlet that they are planning to offer him a brand-new deal with the forward looking forward to staying at Old Trafford for his whole career.
Amad a better choice as per EtH
“The flying form of Jadon Sancho since his loan move to Chelsea may become an embarrassment that haunts Erik ten Hag. But the United manager is adamant that Amad Diallo is a safer bet to deliver long-term consistency.
“Diallo has started four of United’s five League games and is seen by Ten Hag as reliable, a team player and an attacking threat.
“The Ivory Coast winger performs well in all the performance metrics with Ten Hag considering Amad more dependable than Sancho, who infuriated the Dutchman with erratic time-keeping during his spell at the club.”
The 20-time English league champions had the option of loaning Amad out but after a brilliant end to the last season, Ten Hag kept his faith in the 22-year-old and so far, he has delivered.
