Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has admitted that like many fans, he is “impatient” with his side’s inconsistency, as it continues to be a major problem.
United followed up consecutive victories against Southampton and Barnsley with two disappointing back-to-back draws vs. Crystal Palace and more recently, FC Twente.
Against Twente in particular, the Red Devils were not up to the standards, with Ten Hag accusing his players of being too “easy-going” and “complacent.”
Ahead of United’s Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur, Ten Hag addressed the club’s struggles to nail down a consistent run of performances and results.
He admired that he shares the fans’ impatience but called for more time as he seeks to realise his vision at Old Trafford.
The Dutchman told reporters, “I think you have to assess the situation, still we are working and progress.”
“We have to sign players but we made a choice to sign very young players, like last year Hojlund and this year Zirkzee and Leny Yoro, players we believe in them in this moment and also for the future and we have to build them.”
He added, “I think we turned a corner and have to work with the squad and that takes time. Also I am impatient and I want to go straight forward, but also we had success in the last two seasons and we have to work hard to bring more success.”
“You have also to be fair. We won two trophies in the last two seasons and we are ambitious.”
“We want to win another one and be as high as possible and go in every game for winning the game, it doesn’t matter who the opponent is.”
United vs. Spurs kicks off on Sunday at at 6:30 BST.
Ten Hag and his players will undoubtedly be keen to get a result lest the pressure continues to mount on their shoulders.
