Former Chelsea and Arsenal player Emmanuel Petit has identified who he believes would be an ideal player for Manchester United to sign in the upcoming transfer window.
Petit is of the opinion that Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk should leave the club, given his lack of playing opportunities. Surprisingly, it is Man United who Petit selected as the player’s ideal destination.
“He’s 23 and he’s wasting too much time already and with the new sports direction at Chelsea, I don’t think he has a future there,” Petit told GamblingZone via Metro.
“However, I think Man United could be an excellent opportunity for him as he suits in Ruben Amorim’s formation. His 3-4-3 could see him play him inside right behind the striker at Old Trafford.”
In addition to unlocking Mudryk’s potential, Petit also expects Amorim to get the best out of the struggling Mason Mount.
“I hope Mason Mount can get back on track under Amorim and I look at Hoijlund and Zirkzee, who both scored two goals in recent games, and it makes me hope the same can happen for Mount,” Petit observed.
“Zirkzee was receiving so much criticism, and now he’s scored two goals, and it shows that Amorim can work his magic; why can’t the same happen to Mount?”
Having arrived at Chelsea in January 2023 for a hefty fee of £89 million, Mudryk has not lived up to his price tag.
He has played in just seven of Chelsea’s 14 Premier League games, featuring primarily as a substitute.
His only start came in Chelsea’s 6-2 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers when he was taken off at half-time. This is proof of how he has fallen out of favour with manager Enzo Maresca, with the likes of Pedro Neto and Noni Madueke clearly taking preference.
United may also have room for Mudryk, given Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation, where two wingbacks and two wingers are utilised.
What’s more, Mudryk’s lack of game time at Stamford Bridge may enable United to get a good deal for the winger, while he himself may push for a transfer due to a desire to revive his stalling career.
