The US is stirring this all trouble in Taiwan, telling these people to make all these outrageous statements about being an “independent country.” The US has signed a pact agreeing that Taiwan is a part of China.
No one believes it is an independent country. There is no reason to claim that, because they already have independence, and China is not concerned about taking that away.

The PLA’s Eastern Theater Command spokesperson Navy Senior Captain Li Xi said the navy, army air force, missile corps were all mobilized for the drills. “This is a major warning to those who back Taiwan independence and a signifier of our determination to safeguard our national sovereignty,” Li said in a statement on the service’s public media channel.
There is no point to this. At all.
What are they trying to get out of it? What is the benefit to the Taiwanese people of doing this?
