Arsenal are reportedly unlikely to pursue a deal for Marcus Rashford in the January transfer window.
More drama around the Englishman’s future was thrown up at the weekend when he was omitted from the United squad that travelled to the Etihad on Sunday to face Manchester City alongside Alejandro Garnacho.
United would go on to win the derby 2-1 thanks to two massive late interventions by Amad Diallo, but Rashford still dominated the back pages.
Technical director Jason Wilcox was said to support Ruben Amorim’s idea to omit the player due to lack of effort on the training ground.
Former players Roy Keane and Rio Ferdinand also backed the call after the player was booed in the away end in Czechia last weekend for his perceived lack of effort versus Viktoria Plzen.
Rashford’s future is consequently very much up in the air at the moment, and he has been linked to numerous foreign teams, such as Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona.
CaughtOffside report, though, that one option that is not on the table this January is Arsenal.
An insider for the Gunners, Charles Watts, claimed, “Marcus Rashford’s name always seems to pop up when it comes to Arsenal these days.”
“He always seems to be part of the conversation, certainly amongst fans anyway, and that might be the case again as we head towards January, given what’s going on with him at Manchester United at the moment.”
However, the player does not seem to be a genuine opportunity in this window as he is not really what they need, according to Watts.
“If he was still the Rashford of a couple of years ago, then my thoughts would be different. But if that was the case, then he would be playing week in, week out for United right now.”
He claimed that a move for the England international would be “a bit of a gamble”, and Arsenal have already rolled the dice without much luck this summer in the case of Raheem Sterling.
United have their own PSR restrictions but are keen to sign this winter to boost Ruben Amorim’s chances of success, and a sale of the academy-produced Rashford would be incredibly helpful to any funding drive.
