Manchester United finally decided to cut ties with Anthony Martial this past summer after nine years with the Frenchman spending the last couple of seasons mainly on the sidelines due to numerous injuries.
In fact, the France international missed over 60 games in the last four seasons with Erik ten Hag hardly ever getting the chance to call upon the former Monaco starlet during his time at the club.
In fact, the forward had netted in excess of 10 goals in only three out of the nine league campaigns, highlighting his inconsistency during that period.
Under the Glazers, the forward would have been offered a new deal in order to maintain his market value in a bid to earn a decent transfer fee, but that move hardly ever paid off and INEOS were right not to entertain such thoughts.
Martial’s inconsistent United career
His talent has never been in doubt but his application on the pitch and his poor injury record went against him in the end as United decided to replace the 28-year-old with Joshua Zirkzee of Bologna.
There was tentative interest from Saudi Pro League and clubs in Italy, France and Spain and it was expected that Martial would find a new home fairly quickly.
However, that did not prove to be the case as no clubs came forward for his services during the summer window. But with him being a free agent, chances of a move did not vanish completely.
Recently, The Peoples Person relayed that AEK Athens and Brazilian club Flamengo had offered the French star a route back into the game.
Flamengo move off?
Flamengo star Pedro had suffered a serious knee injury while training with the Brazil national team, which prompted the Brazilian club to go after the former United ace.
However, as per Monday’s edition of Meia Hora (via Sport Witness), Martial’s wage and contract demands have meant a move to Brazil could be off.
The former United No 9 has reportedly been demanding a three-year deal on big wages, something Flamengo simply could not offer.
Time is running out for Martial to find a new home. He must reduce his demands or face the prospect of being away from the pitch for the whole season, something David de Gea was subject to after his departure from Old Trafford.
