NEW: White House official John Kirby says after his extensive “assessment” of the drones, he can confidently say the drones are totally legal, lawful, and perfectly normal.
In other words, yes, the federal government is behind this.

Oh, so now they’re stars?
This whole thing is moronic. It’s like a parody of government gaslighting.
White House spokesman John Kirby told reporters on Monday that the drones zipping over New Jersey residents’ homes are a “combination” of personal, professional and governmental aircraft.“We assess that the sightings to date include a combination of lawful commercial drones, hobbyist drones and law enforcement drones, as well as manned fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters and even stars that were mistakenly reported as drones,” Kirby announced, per multiple reports.
“We have not identified anything anomalous or any national security or public safety risk over the civilian airspace in New Jersey or other states in the Northeast. The work continues,” Kirby went on.
Garden State residents have been tormented by sightings across Morris, Passaic, Bergen and Hunterdon County since at least Nov. 18, sparking a public frenzy.
In response, federal authorities established a tip line and filtered through more than 5,000 submissions, with fewer than 100 leads “deemed worthy of further investigative activity,” an FBI official told reporters on Sunday.
…
Kirby pleaded with reporters to remind the public that there are myriad legal drones buzzing up across the sky daily. This includes drones used for the “betterment” of society.
Joe Rogan said he believes it might be the government trying to find nukes or something.
This is the first video about these drones that has got me genuinely concerned. https://t.co/yzRoie2lUn

Even if that was true, there would be no reason for them to keep searching the same area over and over. Nor would they need to do it at night, and if they did do it at night, they wouldn’t need to use the official government lighting scheme. These drones are too low to cause a problem for commercial aircraft, they could easily fly without lights.
