Erik ten Hag faces a fresh injury concern as Jonny Evans reportedly missed first-team training ahead of Manchester United’s trip to Fenerbahce.
Ten Hag has had to deal with injury crisis at the back all season. Much has been talked about Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia’s absence, with the left-back pair yet to feature for United this season.
However, the situation at the heart of the defence has also been a major cause of concern for the Dutchman, owing to injuries to Leny Yoro, Victor Lindelof, and Harry Maguire.
Amid this, Evans has proven to be a vital player for the United gaffer, helping steady the ship with his defensive temperament and positional awareness.
The 36-year-old started his second straight Premier League game on Saturday.
After helping United keep a cleansheet against Aston Villa before the international break, Evans delivered another resilient defensive display in his side’s 2-1 win over Brentford.
However, Ten Hag is likely to be forced to find another defensive solution in the Europa League on Thursday.
According to The Athletic’s Mark Critchley, the Northern Irishman missed open training with a knock, and is doubtful to feature against Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce.
Maguire was not included in the matchday squad against Thomas Frank’s men after picking up a muscle injury at Villa. As such, he is also very unlikely to play any part in Istanbul.
Ten Hag, however, may be able to rely on Lindelof, who has only recently returned to full fitness. He replaced Evans late in the game at Old Trafford over the weekend.
If Mazraoui returns to the starting lineup, Lisandro Martinez, who started at left-back against Brentford, may shift back to his natural position to shield Andre Onana’s net too.
Bruno Fernandes, who received a red card against FC Porto, is also unavailable for the crucial fixture. He was not involved in the training, having been handed a few days off.
