Manchester United are reportedly back in contact with former Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel, as Erik ten Hag continues to come under increased scrutiny.
United have endured an extremely poor start to the 2024/25 season and currently sit in 14th place in the Premier League table with just eight points to their name.
The Red Devils have won just two of their opening seven top-flight fixtures and have also failed to grab a victory in their last five matches across all competitions.
Performances and results have left plenty to be desired and after a summer in which he narrowly kept his job, there is renewed speculation over Ten Hag’s position at Old Trafford.
A number of potential replacements for the Dutchman have been mooted, including Tuchel. A report covered by The Peoples Person earlier this month claimed that United were “lining up” a move for the German tactician.
It was subsequently relayed that Tuchel is the “favourite” to become the next United boss – a role he is believed to want after failed talks with INEOS in the summer.
A fresh update has now been provided by journalist Graeme Bailey, who reveals that INEOS are “drawing contingency plans” in case they decide to sack Ten Hag and as a result, “they are back in contact” with Tuchel.
“TBR Football understands Thomas Tuchel wants his next job to be in England and his representatives are working hard to make sure that is the case.”
“Tuchel is in contention to succeed Erik Ten Hag at Old Trafford, and he knows he is of interest to Manchester United having spoken to the club in the summer.”
“United for now are sticking with the Dutchman, but TBR Football understands talks are ongoing between numerous parties and Tuchel’s people have had contact once again.”
Over the weekend, it emerged that Tuchel is in contention to take up the England job.
According to Bailey, the 51-year-old coach’s camp have informed the Football Association that they would relish the opportunity to succeed Gareth Southgate.
United return to action on Saturday when they host Thomas Frank’s Brentford. The match kicks off at 15:00 BST.
