Despite having the lion’s share of the ball, Manchester United failed to make their dominance count in the end against Crystal Palace and ended up leaving Selhurst Park with only a point.
After scoring 10 goals in the last two games with all the wingers firing on all cylinders, Saturday’s game saw Alejandro Garnacho spurn chance after chance while Bruno Fernandes had one of his worst games in a red shirt.
With Antony’s future far from secure, there is still scope to improve out wide and recently, the Red Devils were linked with a move for Tyler Dibling.
The Southampton ace had Diogo Dalot’s number in the first half of United’s game against the Saints last week, even going on to earn a penalty after the Portuguese fouled him inside the box.
Dibling impressing
The subsequent penalty save from Andre Onana inspired the visitors to go on the attack and they scored twice in six minutes to wrestle back control of the game.
The Southampton manager is a big fan of the academy graduate with the club aware of the interest he is generating across the Premier League.
United sporting director Dan Ashworth is a long-term fan and is instrumental in driving United’s approach for the 18-year-old wide man.
The Saints are even considering offering a contract extension to Dibling to avoid losing him anytime soon with the player seemingly open to staying.
As per HITC, United scouts were in attendance to watch the England U19 international open the scoring during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town.
United scouting Saints ace
Along with the Old Trafford side, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle, Crystal Palace and West Ham scouts were also present at St Mary’s.
“HITC can now confirm that scouts working on behalf of Man United – who took note of his display against Erik ten Hag’s men – were in attendance at St Mary’s seven days later as Russell Martin’s Southampton welcomed fellow top-flight newcomers Ipswich Town to the banks of the Solent.
“Dibling, HITC understands, was also watched by Tottenham, Newcastle, Crystal Palace, Brighton and West Ham.”
His age and left-footed profile makes him the perfect addition for Ten Hag and it will be interesting to see how this pans out in the near future.
The increased scouting points towards a future move for the forward with Southampton having a history of moving their better players on with United acquiring Luke Shaw when he was star academy graduate there.
